The Folklife Program honors, preserves, and supports Nevada’s traditional art forms and cultural expressions that are handed down within families, occupations, religions, tribes, ethnicities and other community groups. The Folklife Program documents Nevada’s valuable heritage and cultural traditions and shares the work and words of ethnic and traditional artists with the public through exhibitions, publications, educational activities and partnerships. FUNDING OPPORTUNTIES
Folklife Apprenticeship Grants
Created in 1988, the Folklife Apprenticeship Program encourages the continuation of Nevada’s diverse traditional culture by providing grants to skilled master artists to teach committed apprentices through intensive instruction about their art form. continue
Folklife Opportunity Grants
Non-competitive grants of up to $1,500 throughout the year are offered to nonprofit organizations [501(c)3 organizations and organizations using fiscal agents] and government entities, including Tribes, with annual budgets of $100,000 or less, to support projects associated with the presentation and preservation of traditional arts, language and other folklife activities. continue
Folklife - Professional Development Grants
Professional Development Grants (PDGs) are noncompetitive grants available throughout the year to eligible applicants on a first-come; first-served basis while funding is available. PDGs will fund up to $650 for out-of-state activities, up to $500 for in-state activities not sponsored by NAC, and up to $350 for NAC-sponsored activities. continue
Nevada Heritage Awards
Created in 2010, the Nevada Heritage Awards honor Nevada folk artists who are the finest and most influential masters of their particular art forms and traditions. Annual awards of up to two $3,500 Nevada Heritage Awards to individuals whose work in the folk arts has had a significant impact on the people and communities of the state. continue

Folklife Education Initiative
Nevada Folk Arts Roster is a resource for schools and community organizations that currently features thirteen Nevada folk and traditional artists who are available for public presentations and performances. continue
Nevada Folklife Archives
Folklife staff documents Nevada’s valuable heritage and cultural traditions and shares the work and words of ethnic and traditional artists with the public. Interviews on tapes or transcriptions, photographs, slides, objects and publications are catalogued and available for research projects on an appointment basis only. The Folklife Archives are currently located in the Carson City office.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
Professional Development Workshops for Traditional Artists
Folklife Program provides workshops designed for artists who wish to gain information and skills necessary for marketing, self-promotion, public presentation and exhibition, school residencies, and/or to join the Nevada Folk Arts Roster (see above.) Generally presented in partnership with an arts or cultural organization, these workshops range from half-day to multi-day trainings, depending on the subject matter. Contact the Folklife Program if you are interested in sponsoring a workshop or for information on upcoming workshops.
Technical Assistance
Staff provides technical assistance to individual artists and organizations for the development and maintenance of Folklife festivals, exhibits based on traditional arts, artist referrals, cultural inventories, folklore publications, and other related public programs, as well as research methodologies in traditional arts and culture.
